Even though Africa is the continent with the highest growth rate, it faces similar serious human and economic development challenges. These challenges are complex and inter-related often affecting different facets of human life at the same time. The solution requires a new approach involving multi-disciplinary collaboration addressing the issues from a new perspective. The College of Engineering, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in 2015 started a Conference on Engineering, Science, Technology, and Entrepreneurship ( ESTE 2015) . The Conference brought together more than 500 researchers in all fields of engineering, science and technology as well as entrepreneurs from Ghana, and from the diaspora to discuss cutting edge research findings to problems facing Africa. Following the success of ESTE 2015, the College of Engineering decided to organise the conference every two years to create a common platform for researchers, industry and policy makers to discuss their research findings and to formulate a common approach to addressing some of the challenges facing the continent.
